1.     How will Fitter, Faster, Stronger benefit my child?

We at Elite Fitness believe it is our responsibility, as health and fitness providers, to help your child to develop fundamental movement skills in order for your child to enjoy an active life through both competitive and non-competitive activity.

When specialising in a single sport during younger years your child may lack broader movement skills which will stop them from enjoying and participating in other areas of physical activity.  We aim to create young, well rounded, injury free athletes who enjoy and succeed in whatever sport they choose.  We work around the basic movement patterns of the squat, lunge and a push and a pull obtaining these skills in multiple directions, planes, amplitudes, tempos and complexities.

2.     But my child is already taking part in sport, why do they need this as well?

If you think about’ building’ your child into someone who will continue to succeed and enjoy sport throughout their life  - then it’s very similar to building a house!  They need to be built by someone who knows exactly what they need in order to make sure they have strong foundation, and great supporting walls in the right places – by asking your house to stand up in a hurricane without any foundations you can guarantee it won’t stay strong for long.  In terms of your child we can ensure that their physical foundations of movement are strong, so when they are tackled in rugby, fall off their horse, or are having a growth spurt their bodies can cope with the changes.  Most of you will find the majority of the time your child is involved in sports participation and performance (this is your hurricane!), which has widely been shown to increase the likelihood of overuse injuries and burnout in adolescents, as they haven’t had that foundation of their physical movement skills.  The perfect example of this is Michael Owen – a top level professional footballer – who excelled in his late teens and very early twenties, because of his natural skill level, and has since struggled with injury and fitness, because his basic movement patterns and foundations were flawed.

For more information about this and other subjects read our Gym Blog at EliteFitness.co.uk

3.     What does a Fitter, Faster, Stronger Membership involve?

The Fitter, Faster, Stronger Membership is £36 a month and entitles your child to Fitter Faster Stronger and TeenFit Classes.

4.     How old does my child need to be to take part?

Fitter, Faster, Stronger is split into two age groups 12-15yrs and 16-19yrs.

5.     Does my child need to have a sporting background?

No, Fitter, Faster, Stronger is a programme aimed at developing fundamental movement regardless of experience or ability – Everyone is welcome.   We aim to provide your child with foundation movement skills to enjoy and participate in multiple sports for the rest of their lives.

6-     What do these sessions involve?

The Fitter, Faster, Stronger curriculum is designed around the development of fundamental movement skills such as the ability to squat, lunge, push and pull. We achieve this through a combination of corrective exercise, movement skill development, athletic movement and conditioning games that develop the individual specifically for their own needs and requirements. This unique approach will provide your child with well-rounded physical training and understanding that will be transferable across all sports both competitive and non competitive.

7-     Does that mean my child will be lifting weights?

Fitter, Faster, Stronger is first and foremost about the development of movement skills that are transferable across, sports, recreation and day to day living.

However once competency and basic mastery of fundamental movement skills using only the manipulation of bodyweight is achieved, and our staff believe it is an suitable developmental option, external loads such as kettlebells, dumbbells and barbells will be used to apply an appropriate external load through a movement pattern for the purpose of technical development

12-  What is Functional Movement Screening and why is it used?

Functional Movement Screening is an assessment tool used to provide us with a snapshot of an individual’s movement. From this screening we can establish how your child moves and if they use any compensatory actions that restrict their ability to move freely without risk of potential injury. For more information on the Functional Movement Screen and its use at Elite Fitness check out our Gym Blog at EliteFitness.co.uk.

What is Physical Competency Assessment and why is it used?

Physical competency assessment is a criteria used as an expansion of FMS assessment. PCA is used at Elite Fitness more broadly to assess basic movement competencies found within the Fitter, Faster, Stronger movement curriculum. For more information on Physical Competency Assessment at Elite Fitness check out our Gym Blog at EliteFitness.co.uk.
