John Williams, a 50 year old father of two teenagers who had an on-off relationship with a basic level of fitness over the years was unsure as to whether he had left it too late to start.

But he took up the challenge and has raised over £23,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support over the course of 6 fights.

In this interview he tells why he continues to take part in white collar boxing events.

We had the wonderful Guto Rhun fighting in our Elite Fitness Fight Night 14 - not only did he enter this awesome challenge but he was being followed by S4C's YLle - Popular Culture show on his journey to fitness and getting in the ring!

As previous winner of BBC Wales 'Request a Voice' - he went on to host his own show on Radio Wales for 2 years, as well as DJing at events, he is a regular contributer on S4C's music programme 'Tag' and hosting duties at Tafwyl and the national Eisteddfod last year. This year he is also on the judging panel for the 'Can I Gymru' Competition on S4C.  You can see the training, the challenges and interviews with our coaches and Guto throughout the 9 weeks of training every Thursday night on S4C's YLle during September!  We can't wait!!

Now we have gone through creating, developing and enhancing your credibility as well as achieving some highly targeted marketing, media exposure and brand awareness and recognition here is another reason why sponsoring an event is a brilliant marketing strategy.

Community involvement and Giving Back  Larger and more established corporations that get involved with local events will be sending a message to the attended that they are genuinely interested in providing support. Companies that show generosity for a cause will spark more human interestand peak to the audience.

Elite Fitness Fight Night is organized to raise funds for Bright Futures.

Now we have gone through creating, developing and enhancing your credibility as well as achieving some highly targeted marketing, and media exposure here is another reason why sponsoring an event is a brilliant marketing strategy.

Brand awareness and recognition  Logo and website placement in a variety of places such flyers, direct mail, brochures, website, email marketing campaigns, tickets, signage etc will add to increased brand awareness.

Elite Fitness distributes over 5000 double-sided colour flyers, and 1000 A3 posters every single Fight Night event twice a year, logos on vests, toblerones and corner pads are seen both online and in copies of City Life Cardiff, http://www.citylifecardiff.co.uk/ as...

After reading our first two reasons on creating, developing and enhancing your credibility as well as achieving some highly targeted marketing, here is another reason why sponsoring an event is a brilliant marketing strategy.

Media Exposure All events have their own marketing efforts to make sure the event is well attended and generally successful.  When sponsors decide to be involved, they will automatically get the benefit of being promoted throughout the process.

Elite Fitness Fight Night is always featured in both the City Life magazine http://www.citylifecardiff.co.uk/ social pages, and throughout the general publication.

Photos with sponsored vests, corner pads and toblerones are used in the social pages and maximize exposure to their entire readership.

Social Media plays a large role in the exposure around Elite Fitness Fight Night and we have outstanding relationships with local business including Paramount Interiors @Paramount_Int (2255 followers), PAS nutrition @ProAthleteSupps (Nutritional...

Why sponsoring an event is a brilliant marketing strategy!

Part 1.

1. Create, develop and enhance credibility

Companies in general have few opportunities to build trust and establish rapport with their customer and prospects.

Getting involved with an event and being seen as dependable and supportive will accelerate the process.

Elite Fitness Fight Night has an outstanding reputation as an excellent put together event, in all aspects from the boxers training to the actual event night.

How we overcame our hatred of running by running together and having a laugh!
By Lins on 13/10/2014 15:14

Without doubt, Running is one of the most accessible and widely used forms of exercise across the globe, from childhood through to adulthood, we are literally purpose built to run. As an activity that thrives on mechanical repeatability and resiliency, even under extreme fatigue, the aim always remains a perfectly executed, complete leg cycle from the first stride to the last. At Elite Fitness we are fortunate enough to work with a variety of individuals, including those who have experienced various levels of success within running both recreationally and competitively. Yet across these individuals in various sports and recreational activities that we work with, no group has such consistent injury occurrence as a result of faulty movement patterns and asymmetries as runners.

Yet what we witness day to day is not unique to our gym or even the UK in general, research across the pond undertaken by the American Academy of Physical Medicine estimate that 70% of individuals participating in...

The Group Effect

Are you training to see improvements? Do you often repeat the same workout and maybe lack inspiration when it comes to training? Would you find it useful to train in a group rather than relying on your mate to turn up or training on your own?

Well there is a solution.

Small Group Training (SGT)

Small Group Training in a variety of different formats and names is now the biggest growing trend in fitness and looks to continue to grow in popularity.

First off group training not only adds motivation and competition with one another, but drives you to further increase your performance than what you would achieve by yourself (Hodges and Carron., 1992). Group training offers the element of support and camaraderie that drags you out of bed early morning to come to the gym.

For us at Elite Fitness we believe that Small Group Training (SGT) is one of the most important developments to happen here. It gives our members the chance to try different types of training...

As a child growing up, I would spend hour after hour outside playing. Desperately trying to be like those sporting heroes I would see on the T.V.  I would spend what must have seemed to an outsider an absurd amount of time trying to “bend the ball like Beckham” or hit a back-hand like Roger Federer. Fiercely determined to mimic those individuals I considered masters of movement, people who moved with such control and precision it had looked magical. This, I suppose, is how I first became interested in the way in which people move, and its importance to all of us.

In spite of my never-dwindling enjoyment and subsequent further education in sport, health and exercise, it wasn’t until college that I began to consider the possibility that this life-long interest could be a genuine potential career path. As I continued to progress through levels of education, finally culminating  in the completion of an MSc in Performance Coaching,  I was fortunate enough to be provided with the opportunity to work with Cardiff...

'As a spectator at the last three Fight Night Extravaganzas, I finally run out of excuses and succumb to Simon Harling's taunts and emails .  As the great Ali said ‘he who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life’.

For the past 9 years I have focused on different fitness challenges but one has kept me as driven as white collar boxing!  Although the actual fight only lasts 6 mins, the training has been a real challenge both mentally and physically.

My weekly training schedule of 3 aerobic sessions and 5 boxing sessions, has undoubtedly taken my body to the best overall fitness I have ever experienced.  As my confidence increases weekly I still find myself worrying as fight night approaches.  Its not about the losing or getting hurt it’s the potential humiliation in front of 30 mates!

Its very hard to think positively when you know over 400 people will be watching 2 men fighting as hard as they can, but I will try to remember what Tyson says…

‘I'm scared every time I go into the ring, buts its how you handle it.  What you have to do is plant your feet, bite down on your mouthpiece and say ‘Lets go!’”

Well what a busy few weeks its been...!

The Fight Night II - both Friday and Saturday went off with a bang.  Organising was spot on by us if I may say so myself.  Both nights ran pretty smoothly, although I had to take over a ring girl during Fridays fights, but we replaced our planned model with Runner Up Vale of Glam for Saturday- Katie - she was fab!  All teh boxers did themselves proud  -  we had a couple of knock outs, a dislocated shoulder :( and a lot of bruises.  All in aid of the Childrens Leuakemia Charity - Latch.

Next date booked already: 19th November 2010 at the Coal Exchange, Cardiff Bay. Get in quick!

Lisa our new isntructor is coming into her own here at Elite and has taken ownership of some of the classes, she will be here working weekends, and some evenings, so make sure you say Hi and no doubt she'll get you booked into classes quicker than picking up a free salad!
